Layers and Angles

A very damp 42 degrees, rolling out today.

A very wise friend once said if it was colder than 50 and base miles were the only goal, that dressing like Nanook was the way to go. So it was thick wool socks with Gore-Tex booties, tights and knee warmers, Capilene shirt, wool jersey, winter riding jacket, lobster gloves, neck-warmer, and fancy new Discovery Team winter hat.

An hour of spinning in a light wind ahead.

The damn rear derailleur wouldn't hold a shift. It was too hot on some cogs and too cold on others. Three stops before getting out to the country and it worked OK.

A great gray day in Kansas. The Belgium of the middle US.

Left cleat was spot-on. Right foot was tight around the back of the ball and instep, close to home, but not there. Right brake-hood was higher than the left. Bars were rotated a few degrees too far up.

The rider was a little hyper-critical today.

Out went well - slightly assisted by a tailwind. Lungs are cold but clear. Legs feel loose from some good roller sessions.

Back went well - the tailwind was only a 16th cross so it didn't have more than a cog difference from the out.

Not much time to ride today. Dad is going in for surgery tomorrow.
